On the scale of things that are important to your home’s exterior, gutters should rank among the top! They do a lot more for your home than you realize; they can help prevent costly water damage to your roof and your home’s foundation. For this reason, it’s important to get the right kind of gutters installed so that you’ll be assured of their functionality. So, what types of gutters can you get, and which style works best for your home? We break down the different types below!

Aluminum Gutters

There’s a reason why aluminum gutters have grown in popularity; they have a lot of upside to them! They’re relatively easy to install and can last for around 20 years. Aluminum gutters are also the most customizable option, as you can get them in a variety of colors and still have them function at their best. It has fantastic corrosion resistance but doesn’t fare as well with exposure to moisture and salt. As long as you don’t live along the coast, aluminum gutters are a fantastic option.

Vinyl Gutters

Vinyl gutters are a great option for those homeowners who aren’t looking to break the bank. It’s one of the cheapest gutter types by far, and are also easy to install thanks to their light weight. You won’t need to worry about regular maintenance, as these gutters are the easiest to maintain. They don’t run the risk of rusting or corroding. However, the longevity of vinyl gutters leaves something to be desired. Most will only last around 10 years, but they can last longer if you live in a drier climate.

Stainless Steel Gutters

Stainless steel gutters are ridiculously strong! They’re made with one of the strongest metal alloys on Earth, after all. Unfortunately, this is where a majority of the pros end. While stainless steel is corrosion resistant, the potential for rusting is still there. You’ll need to do a little more maintenance on these gutters or install a leaf filter to combat this. Stainless steel gutters are also far more expensive than other materials. If you do decide to get them, you’ll be rewarded with a long shelf life!
